Parker is from Austin, Texas, and was a standout prep runner at Cedar Park High School where he placed 3rd at the State Track Meet in the 3200 meters in 9:04.20 as a senior in 2010 and had one of the nation’s top 3200m times of 8:54.70 as a junior when he won the 2009 state title. In cross country, he placed third in the 2009 Texas State Cross Country Championship and then ran 15:36.40 over the 5000-meter course at Nike Cross Nationals, placing 16th. His high school bests were 4:12.85 in the 1600m, 8:54.70 in the 3200m, and 29:32.23 in the 10,000m.

Also as a prep, he captured back-to-back USA Junior Track & Field Championships at 10,000m. He went on to finish third at the Pan American Junior Championships in the 10,000m in 2009 during his junior year of high school. He wrapped up his high school career with a sixth-place finish at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships in 29:32.23, a mark that is No. 6 all time on the American junior list and the highest recorded finish by an American in that event at the World Junior Championships.

At the University of Oregon, during his freshman year, he became the first person to ever win a third USA Junior Track & Field Championships at 10,000m and was also the runner-up at 5000m. He won the Pan American Junior Championships in the 10,000m by over 40 seconds. Over the rest of his time at Oregon, he was a nine-time All-American, finished third in the 5000m at both the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships, was a member of three NCAA Championship teams at Oregon, finished in the Top 10 in the 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both 2013 and 2014, and was 10th in the 5000m at 2012 NCAA Outdoor.

While finishing his final year of collegiate eligibility, Parker placed 6th at the .US 12 Championships in 34:19 and posted a personal best time of 27:54 in the 10,000m at the 2015 Payton Jordan meet.

Parker joined Team USA Minnesota in August 2015.
