Minneapolis/St. Paul - May 26, 2010 - Ten Team USA Minnesota distance runners will participate in the second annual National Running Day on June 2. The national event encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to go for a run at a variety of localized activities across the country. In the Twin Cities area, the Team USA Minnesota athletes will be at the following locations for Wednesday evening group runs.
Life Time Fitness - St. Louis Park Katie McGregor, Matt Gabrielson, Michelle Frey, Heather Dorniden and Meghan Armstrong
Life Time Fitness - Highland Park
Marathon Sports - Minneapolis Kristen Nicolini, Jason Lehmkuhle, Josh Moen and Emily Brown
The free activities at each location will begin at 6 p.m. with runs of 3 to 8 miles (shorter options will be available). Twin Cities area sponsors of National Running Day activities include Life Time Fitness and Twin Cities In Motion. The event promotes running as a healthy, easy and accessible form of exercise. Strands.com Hi-Lite Meet - May 29 Jason Lehmkuhle will compete in the 10,000 meters at the Strands.com Hi-Lite Meet in Corvallis, Ore., on May 29. The high performance track meet will be held Saturday evening at the Corvallis High School track, with the men's 10,000 set to start at 9:15 p.m. (Pacific time).
The Team USA Minnesota athlete will be looking for a qualifying time (under 29 minutes) so he can compete in the distance at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held in Des Moines June 24-27. The championships will be at Drake Stadium where Lehmkuhle ran as a standout athlete for Drake University.
Lehmkuhle most recently competed at the Boston Marathon in April, finishing ninth in a personal best time of 2:12:24.
American Milers Club Meet - May 22 At the American Milers Club high performance meet in Indianapolis on May 22, Heather Dorniden won the women's 1500 meter race in a personal best time of 4:15.74 (previous best was 4:17.68).
