Katy Jermann is 8th at USA 10 Mile Championships; Tyler Jermann Finishes 5th at Twin Cities Marathon; Heather Kampf Wins TC 5k

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Oct. 9, 2018 - Nine Team USA Minnesota distance runners competed during Twin Cities Marathon weekend Oct. 6-7, with Katy Jermann finishing eighth in the USATF 10 Mile Championships, Tyler Jermann crossing the line in fifth place at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, and Heather Kampf winning the TC 5k.  In addition, four of the six athletes competing in the 10 Mile race ran personal bests.

In the USATF 10 Mile Championships on Oct. 7, hosted by the Medtronic TC 10 Mile, Katy Jermann was eighth in 54:59 (previous best was 56:04), Meghan Peyton was 23rd in 58:04, and Dakotah Lindwurm finished in 27th place in 59:19.

In the men's 10 mile race, Joel Reichow was 19th in a debut 48:41 at the distance, teammate Kevin Lewis was 20th in 48:48 in a personal best (previous was 49:54), and Danny Docherty was 29th in 49:39 (previous 49:54).

"The athletes competed very well and are in a good place as we go into the 2018-19 competitive year," said Chris Lundstrom, Team USA Minnesota coach.  "Katy ran a fantastic race along with a personal best and continues to make consistent progress from month to month.  To place in the top 10 in this USA Championship field is quite an accomplishment.

"Joel, Kevin and Danny are so much stronger than they were a year ago, which showed in their ability to handle the course and mix it up in a great field.  For all three to come away with PRs in a great sign of things to come.  Kevin's next big race will be the USATF 5k Championships in New York in November, and all three will run USATF Club Cross Country in December.

"Meghan and Dakotah were not happy with their races but they worked through it on a day when they didn't feel the best.  They have been training hard in preparation for the USA Marathon Championships at California International Marathon in early December."

In the Twin Cities Marathon on Oct. 7, Tyler Jermann was fifth in 2:19:39.  "Tyler was disappointed with his time, but he did a great job of sticking to the effort, which paid off as he was able to pass a couple of people over the last few miles," said Lundstrom.  "A fifth place finish in the Twin Cities Marathon is an accomplishment to be proud of.  Tyler plans to return to the marathon at Houston in January, where he will be joined by Katy and Danny, who are preparing to debut at the distance."

In the Saturday Running Events on Oct. 6, Heather Kampf won the TC 5k - presented by Fredrikson & Byron - in a course record time of 16:39.  Breanna Sieracki, who won the race in 2017, was second in 17:09.

"Heather was excited to be back out competing in front of the home crowd, and really fed off the energy of the crowd and the other participants," said Lundstrom.  "Breanna successfully executed a strategy of working on a more conservative start and running a nice negative split.  Heather is preparing for the indoor track season, and Breanna is getting ready for USATF Club Cross Country."
