Minneapolis/St. Paul - March 6, 2017 - Team USA Minnesota's Heather Kampf twice made the podium over the weekend at the USA Indoor Championships that were held at altitude in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was third in the women's one mile race on Saturday, March 4, and followed that up with a second place finish in the women's two mile on Sunday, March 5.
Kampf was one of just two women who did the distance double by racing in both events. Her time in the one mile was 4:46.06 and she posted 10:21.80 in the two mile.
"Two podium finishes and particularly that second place finish in my first-ever two mile was pretty special," said Kampf. She will next focus on "a good block of training with my teammates" to prepare for the outdoor season, which will include defending her USATF 1 Mile Road title at the Championships on April 25 in Des Moines.
Kampf's indoor season included a personal best of 8:51.27 in the 3000 meters (previous was 8:58.34) at the Armory Track Invitational on Feb. 4, and a 4:28.39 mile at the Millrose Games on Feb. 11.
In her two mile on Sunday, she ran near the front throughout the race and then rallied from fifth place to second over the final 200 meters. The race was shown live on NBCSN.
