Six Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at TC 1 Mile in Minneapolis May 8; Results from Payton Jordan, Pittsburgh Half, Jamaica Invite
Minneapolis/St. Paul - May 6, 2014 - Six Team USA Minnesota distance runners - Heather Kampf, Gabriele Grunewald, Meghan Peyton, Travis Burkstrand, Jon Peterson and Eric Finan - will be among the professional competitors at the Medtronic TC 1 Mile in downtown Minneapolis on May 8. The professional women's wave will start at 7:52 p.m. and the professional men will run at 8:04 p.m.
The start line for the mile race that goes down Nicollet Mall is between 3rd Street South and Washington Avenue and the finish line is between 14th and 15th Street South. This is the 10th year for the event, which also includes a series of mile waves preceding the professional competitions. The event attracts over 3,000 participants.
Kampf won the race in 2012 and is a two-time USA 1 Mile Road Champion, having regained this title in April when she competed at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships in Des Moines. She has a best on the roads of 4:27.1.
Grunewald last ran the TC 1 Mile in 2011 and finished third. Last September she won Grandma's Minnesota Mile in a best on the roads of 4:21.3. Grunewald is the 2014 USA 3000 meter Indoor Champion. Peyton is a regular at the TC 1 Mile, having run the race every year since 2009. She has a best in the mile of 4:40.5.
On the men's side, Burkstrand has a best in the mile of 4:00.15 which he set indoors this winter. He most recently finished eighth at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships in April. This will be his first appearance at the TC 1 Mile along with Finan, who has run 4:04.94 in the mile.
Peterson ran the TC 1 Mile last year and finished 10th in 4:08.6. In the 1500m he has run 3:42.78.
Weekend Results - May 3-4
At the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford University on May 4, Meghan Peyton posted a personal best of 32:47.37 in the 10,000m (previous was 32:59.11), and Travis Burkstrand set a best in the 1500m of 3:43.82 (previous was 3:45). Also, Jon Peterson ran 13:43.35 in the 5000m just narrowly missing his best of 13:41.93.
In Pittsburgh on May 4, Ben Sathre was seventh overall and second American in the UMPC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, which featured American Development funding in addition to the regular prize purse. His time was 1:06:58. Next up for Sathre will be the Dam to Dam Half Marathon in Des Moines on May 31.
Traveling to Jamaica for the Kingston World Challenge on May 3, Gabriele Grunewald was second in the 3000m with a time of 9:42.88. Also on the track, Eric Finan won the 1500 meter race at the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul on May 3 with a time of 3:51.42.
