Andrew is a graduate of Fargo South High School where he was a four time all-state honoree and a North Dakota state cross country champion. At the University of Minnesota, he ran cross country and track for the Golden Gophers. His career highlights at Minnesota include school record holder in the outdoor 5000 meters (13:44.64), 2002 and 2004 Midwest Region Cross Country champion, two-time runner-up in the Big Ten outdoor 5000 meters, two-time cross country All-American, and 2005 team captain in track. Andrew also has the second fastest time in the 10,000 (28:56:59) in school history.
Since becoming a professional distance runner, he has been a member of two World Half Marathon teams, the World 20k team and two Chiba Ekiden teams. Andrew is also a two-time USA champion, having won the 15k championship in 2008 and the 25k championship in 2010.
Andrew was a member of Team USA Minnesota from 2005 to 2008 and rejoined the team in 2010.
