Notes:

In high school at Willoughby South, Katie was the Ohio state champion in the 3200 as a freshman and a state champion in the 1600 as a senior. At the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Katie was a three-time NCAA champion and a nine-time All American in cross country and track. In 1998, she won the 3000 meter NCAA championship and the NCAA Cross Country Championship.

Katie won the 10,000 meter Stanford Invitational in 32:33 in 2000 to qualify for the Olympic Trials. In 2002 at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Katie was the bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters.

In 2003, Katie placed 4th in the USA 8k Cross Country Championships. At the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Katie set a personal best of 8:59.64 in the 3000m and was selected to compete in the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships. At the 2003 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Katie finished 16th in the women's 8K to help her U.S. team take the bronze medal. At the USA Outdoor Championship, she was the bronze medalist.

In 2004, Katie placed 2nd USA 8k Cross Country Championships and was a member of the U.S. World Cross team. At the U.S. Olympic Trials, Katie finished 4th in the 10,000 meter race.

In 2005, at the USA 8k Cross Country Championships she placed 5th to become a member of the 2005 U.S. World Cross Country team. At the 2005 USA Outdoor Championships, Katie won the 10,000 meters. As a member of the U.S. team at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Helsinki, she ran a personal best time of 31:21.20 to finish 14th and first American. Katie won the Guidant 10k in Minneapolis, running a Minnesota state record road time of 32:17. Katie won the 2005 USA 10k Women's Championship.

At the 2006 USA 8k Cross Country Championships she placed 5th and was a member of the U.S. World Cross Country team. Katie was 3rd in the USA 15k Championships and was 4th in the 10,000 meters at USA Outdoor. She won the TC 10 Mile for the fifth time in a state record of 53:51. Katie successfully defended her title at the 2006 USA Women's 10k Championship. At the ING New York City Marathon, Katie made her debut in the distance with a time of 2:32:36 to place 9th.

In 2007, Katie was a member of the U.S. Women's Yokohama Ekiden team that finished 2nd. At the USA 15k Championships, she finished 4th in 49:56. She won the USA 25 km Championships with a debut time of 1:25:53. At the USA Track & Field Championships, Katie finished 3rd in the 10,000m to qualify for the U.S. Worlds team. She competed in the 10,000m in Osaka and finished 13th and was second at the USA 10k Championship.

In 2008, Katie was 4th at the USA Cross Country Championships to earn a berth on her sixth consecutive U.S. World Cross team. At the USA 15k Championships in March, Katie was second. At the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, she placed 4th in the 10,000m. In the fall, she was 2nd in the USA 8k Championship and 2nd in the USA 10 Mile Championship and finished 10th at the ING New York City Marathon in a personal best time of 2:31:14.

In 2009, Katie placed 2nd at the USA 15k Championships, 3rd at the USA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000m, was a member of the U.S. team in the 10,000m at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships, and was 5th at both the USA 5k and 10k Championships.

Katie has been training with Team USA Minnesota since May 2001.
